What is an MIHP or Maternal Infant Health Program?
The Maternal Infant Health Program (MIHP) is the largest home visiting program in Michigan serving pregnant women and infants up to the age of 12-18 months who are enrolled in Medicaid.
What does Mama and Me do for families?
Mama and Me serves families by providing education and support with the goal of our families having healthy pregnancies, good birth outcomes, and healthy infants. Care is provided primarily via in-home face-to-face visits or occasionally telehealth visits from a nurse or social worker. Examples of items we can help with include referrals for safe sleep spaces, safe car seats, diapers, wipes, breastfeeding and parenting information.
What happens at each visit?
At your first visit with us, we complete a risk assessment that will tell us different education topics that we then cover at visits. Our team is trained not only to support pregnant families, but also to monitor infants for developmental delays. The Mama and Me team also provide referral to resources to help your families meet their goals. We refer to programs that provide low cost or free diapers, car seats or safe sleep spaces. We also assist with referrals for a therapist, affordable housing or a food pantry, whatever the need is, we will find a referral resource that meets your family's needs while providing support.
